After splitting with his coach recently, Dominic Thiem has added to his team in the form of Croat, Mate Delic who previous worked with his compatriot Borna Coric and led him to the 2022 Cincinnati Masters title.
Delic will be tasked in stopping Thiem's slide which has seen the former US Open champion contemplate retirement as of late if his ranking doesn't stay above 100 in 2023.
Thiem kicked off the 2021 season ranked third in the world, a far cry from now. However, a wrist injury has wreaked havoc on his career and despite surgery, he is not the same player he was back then. He has been ranked outside of the World's top 70 since April 2022 and year on year has either declined or stayed the same. He is currently 0-2 on the year and is facing similar struggles to Andy Murray as of right now.
Unable to string wins together, he even suffered a new low of being taken the distance by a player ranked down in the pits of the rankings in Michael Agwi at the Davis Cup. He will snub Indian Wells and Miami in order to play Challenger tournaments in the coming month in order to gain match confidence and hopefully wins. But he will be joined by his new touring coach in order to hopefully accomplish that.
