Emma Raducanu had a record-breaking rankings rise last year when she made history at the
US Open by winning it as a qualifier.
The feat actually guaranteed her a loss of points next year as the Brit can only earn 2000 points in case she defends her trophy. Last year however she earned 2040 points due to winning it and getting into the main draw from the qualifiers. So at the very least Raducanu will drop 40 points but considering her form this year it's likely she will lose much more than that.
If that happens, Raducanu faces a record-breaking drop in the rankings as she failed to gather many points outside of the US Open. If she loses in the two early rounds, Raducanu could lose close to 2000 ranking points which would drop her almost outside of the top 100.
That would be a huge drop for the player that is currently ranked inside the top 10. It would also complicate her career considerably as she would have to play a lot of lower-tier event to gather up points. Perhaps that would be a good thing for her, to get some confidence back.
