Ugo Humbert has announced the end of his collaboration with his coach, Jeremy Chardy, after two and a half years. The former world No. 25 joined Humbert back in July 2022, just weeks after Humbert suffered a significant drop in his ranking, which pushed him out of the top-150.
At that time, the French player sought a new coach after having briefly touched the top-30, and his choice was compatriot Chardy, who was in the process of retiring after finishing his 2021 season early due to Covid. Chardy only played two more tournaments as a farewell in the Australian Open and Wimbledon 2023.
The partnership between Chardy and Humbert was undoubtedly successful for the 26-year-old, who, under the guidance of his compatriot, returned to the elite ranks and achieved consistent results. He reached his career-high ranking of world No. 13 at the end of 2024, having won three titles during this period and reaching two other finals, including his first Masters 1000 final at the Paris Masters (losing to Alexander Zverev).
While Humbert is enjoying his best moment on tour, he played his first tournament at the United Cup (1 win, 1 loss) before traveling to Melbourne, where he showcased his skills to reach the fourth round. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, he faced world No. 2 Alexander Zverev and could not do much in his four-set loss.
On Tuesday, Humbert took to social media to announce the end of his collaboration with the former Australian Open quarterfinalist Chardy. "End of our beautiful adventure with Jeremy. Thank you for these two magnificent seasons at your side, all the incredible emotions, the precious moments spent, and everything you taught me," Humbert wrote on Instagram. "I had a great time by your side. I will always be grateful. I wish you all the best for your new project."
The 26-year-old Frenchman has his next challenges in a couple of weeks, as he will be the top seed at the ATP 250 Marseille Open, where players like Arthur Fils, Karen Khachanov, and Hubert Hurkacz will also compete. A week later, he will attend the Doha Open, a tournament that will bring together 10 top-15 players, including Humbert.
