Great Britain managed to stay alive in the
Davis Cup 2023
Finals, courtesy of saving four match points in the doubles match.
The GB team started the proceeding with full confidence, unbeaten
in this round but suffered some serious blows throughout the last day.
The Great Britain team — who got the better of Australia and
Switzerland ahead of meeting the French team — had to find a way and win the
tie because of the other results.
In the first match of the day, Britain’s Daniel Evans
defeated young Arthur Fils with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to strengthen the team’s
position.
In the second fixture, France's Ugo Humbert got the better
of Cameron Norrie with a score of 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.
That result left everything depending on the outcome of the
doubles match between Britain’s duo of Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski, who were up
against Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Nicolas Mahut.
The French pair started brightly and won the first set with
a score of 6-1. Evans and Skupski made a grand comeback in the second and secured
the set on a tiebreak with a score of 7-6.
In the last set, Roger-Vasselin and Mahut were cruising
towards victory but the Britain’s pair had some other ideas as they saved four
match points and eventually came out on top in a tiebreaker with a score of 8-6.
