Matteo Berrettini like quite a number of players will aim to rebuild their careers in 2024 after injury lay-offs and he is understanding that it will be 'complicated' to return to his best and to the top of the sport.
Berrettini has had a torrid 2023 with injury lay-offs which initially were blamed on his new girlfriend, Melissa Satta by some that he had lost the hunger to play.

Sinner & Matteo Berrettini share a hug as Italy wins their 2nd Davis Cup title. The people who criticized Jannik for missing the Davis Cup earlier in the year have nothing to say now. Jannik led this team with conviction. It’s clear how much this team appreciates him. 🥹

He returned with a bang at Wimbledon on his best surface. But it was soon back to injury woes going into the back end of the year. Now having a lowly ranking, it will be rebuilding instead of heading back to his best which he is openly ready for.
"I will now return with the tournaments in Australia but with my current ranking everything will be more complicated. In 2024 I ask to experience the emotions I felt in Malaga and Bologna [during the Davis Cup]."
He was present during Italy's incredible Davis Cup triumph and said that he was enthused after seeing Jannik Sinner and co victorious and that he wants to now count on those emotions on his return to the court.
"I missed it. Screaming for my teammates did me good. I hope to continue to get angry at a wrong shot and get excited for a winner. I'm good, I'm excited. Davis left us all with great enthusiasm, it's a victory that comes from afar, from all the defeats that hurt us."
