Adriano Panatta believes Jannik Sinner could push Novak Djokovic towards retirement in 2024 if he dishes out a few more defeats to the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Panatta said that in that case, Sinner would become Djokovic's nightmare and compared it to when Bjorn Borg quit when John McEnroe arrived as well as the latter when Boris Becker arrived.
After a poor Head to Head record initially, Jannik Sinner has turned the tables in recent times winning twice in two weeks which saw all manner of fanfare for the Italian ace who then anchored his country to the Davis Cup winning in the semi-finals against Djokovic's Serbia.
“In my opinion, if Sinner were to beat him two or three more times in 2024, he would become Djokovic's nightmare, pushing him towards retirement. History teaches & usually repeats itself. Borg quit with the arrival of McEnroe, McEnroe retired when Becker arrived," Panatta told Rai News 24.
