Ex-coach of the former world number one Roger Federer has
revealed that Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal is playing at a ‘very
high level’ ahead of anticipated return to the court.
The 37-year-old has been spending time on the sidelines
after suffering a knee injury earlier in the season. It was because of this
reason Nadal ended up missing three out of the four Grand Slams in 2023.
Federer’s ex-coach Ivan Ljubicic was recently quoted in a
report where he revealed how French young tennis player Arthur Fils informed him
about the progress of the former world number one. "Nadal? Fils texted me
that he is playing at a very high level. I still expect great things from Rafa,”
he said.
Nadal is often regarded as one of the greatest players in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 22 Grand
Slam titles in his career. His most successful competition has been the French Open
where he lifted the title 14 times. It is because of this reason he is renowned
as the ‘King of Clay’.
Nadal has only participated in one Grand Slam in 2023 — the Australian
Open — where he was knocked out from the second round after losing to America’s
Mackenzie McDonald with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
