America’s tennis star
Taylor Fritz believes that him beating the Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon will be a ‘fairytale stuff’ in his view.
The 37-year-old is regarded as the greatest player in the
history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam
titles. Fritz is among many players who have struggled to match Djokovic's intensity over the years.
The two have competed nine times in professional tennis, and on all occasions, the former world number one has come out on top.
The 26-year-old was recently quoted in a report where spoke about
his objectives for the third Grand Slam of the year — Wimbledon.
Fritz was of the opinion that one of his major objectives
will be to get the better of Djokovic and if he manages to do so, it will be a ‘fairytale
stuff’.
"Fairytale story..., hopefully me! I mean obviously to
win. If I beat Novak for the first time somewhere in there, I think that's
probably fairytale stuff," said Fritz.
Fritz might have a really good chance against Djokovic if
the two meet. The legendary tennis star has struggled with form this season and has yet to play in the final of any event.
Novak Djokovic's participation at Wimbledon remains a doubt after he suffered a knee injury during the French Open.
However, Djokovic’s appearance in the mega-event remains a
big question mark as he recently underwent a knee injury.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner suffered a knee injury during
the French Open, which forced him to withdraw from the Roland Garros just before
the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud.
Because of the surgery, it is not clear whether Djokovic
can participate at Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics.
Fritz’s last meeting with the Belgrade-born star was during the quarterfinal of the Australian Open earlier this year. He lost in a four-set
contest with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
