Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal in three sets in their 3rd Match for Africa during the 2020 Match in Africa, in Cape Town.

After both Federer and Nadal played doubles with Bill Gates and Trevor Noah, they faced each other in the highly-anticipated matchup of the night. The Match in Africa began, like every other match, with a coin toss. But this one was special. The toss was done by a special 20 Swiss Francs Coin on which Federer is displayed as the first living Swiss.
However, there was more to it than just a special coin. Also, a special person came to perform it. Federer's mom is from South Africa and therefore it is obvious that Roger supports also South African sport. He also congratulated the South African rugby team to win of the 2019 World Cup. And so it was the captain of the team, Siya Kolisi who came to toss a coin. He also gifted the Swiss a jersey with his name and number.
After winning the coin toss, Federer chose to start on return in difficult windy conditions. And it was a great decision by the Swiss as he got the first break in the first game. Both players held their service games in the first set afterward. Therefore, Federer took the first set with a 6-4 victory.
Out of the 7 singles matches Federer played during all of the Matches for Africa, only 2 reached the third set. In both of the matches in 2010, Federer played Nadal. Maestro did not reach the 3rd set with any of his 4 other opponents in the following years. This changed now in 2020, Nadal was better in the 2nd set and he managed to win it 6-3.
In the third set, it was Federer who dominated the play. The Swiss managed to win the set 6-3 and grabbed his 6th victory in the Match for Africa. But the night was about more than just a game of tennis. All of the money raised from the event will be distributed by the Roger Federer Foundation to support children’s education in Africa. You can also donate money by visiting the official Match in Africa website.
