Felix Auger-Aliassime came back to win against
Andrey Rublev in the
Rotterdam Open semifinal setting up the final showdown against Tsitsipas.
As expected the semifinal between Rublev and Auger-Aliassime proved to be a very good match as both players were playing rather well. Auger-Aliassime secured the comeback win after dropping the first set to move to the final where Stefanos Tsitsipas awaits. The Canadian was very good in the first set playing a lot better than Rublev at times.
The Russian had to saved 7 break points during the first set and he was able to hanging on until the tiebreak. In it, he actually outplayed the Canadian taking the opening set 7-6(5). The 2nd set was different on the surface but also quite different. This time around it was Auger who had to save multiple break points in the set while Rublev faced only one.
The difference was that Auger saved all of them while Rublev didn't and the Canadian took it 6-4. In the final set Auger completely outplayed the Russian exploiting his 2nd serve with ease. On his own serve, Auger was clinical and he cruised to a 6-2 finish in the final set. A brilliant result for the Canadian who was been one of the best players so far in 2022.
