Grigor Dimitrov penned an emotional love letter to tennis in a video shared by the ATP in the past few days.
Dimitrov has endured an up and down career so is perhaps one of the best placed to describe it on camera. When it looked perhaps like his career was over, it shot into life again at the Paris Masters this time last year and he has ascended again.
Back into the top 10 and a dangerous player at the top once more heading into the twilight of his career. Like others have done albeit more sustained e.g Novak Djokovic, Dimitrov has truly given it his all.
He described how he had gone through both love and heartbreak in the sport but how like any type of enduring love, it came through the other side and continued over the years.
"Dear tennis, It's a long love story that you and I have. I was introduced to you when I was three years old with a very small racket given to me by my mum. My first interaction with you was when I was hitting against a very broken wall in my home town..." said Dimitrov.
"Our years together have been filled with lots of love, heartbreaks, excitement, outrageous moments and I'll forever be grateful for what you have brought not only to my life, but to my heart. It was love at first sight.
"Tennis, when you broke my heart... more than once... I don't know if I should thank you, but I do." "It's a moment I had to go through and at the same time it's a moment where you taught me how tennis uses the language of life... Whatever I think that brought the biggest smile on my face - I owe it to you. Keep on going, tennis! Love, Grigor," the tennis player concluded.
