Rafael Nadal criticized
Novak Djokovic for his actions at the Olympic Games calling them a bad look and another former player questioned those actions.
Tennis has always had an interesting way of dealing with controversy. Oftentimes controversy was avoided at all costs and whenever it happened it was swept under the rug fast. Some drama erupted when Rafael Nadal criticized Novak Djokovic and his actions at the Olympics calling them a bad look.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Paul McNamee questioned the actions of Nadal saying it broke athletes code. He took to Twitter to express his opinion and wrote:
"Surprised Rafa actually bothering to respond, and comment, on a peer’s missteps. That’s generally ‘not the code’ amongst athletes, who all know your own fall may only be a moment away. I greatly admire Rafa, so it puzzles me."
McNamee further added:
"Highly unusual, and raised my eyebrows, for one great to give free advice to a fellow great. It creates news copy but not ideal- For the record, I have enormous respect for Rafa & his warrior spirit…King of clay, the surface I love."
McNamee got some heavy criticism by fans in the comments for expressing those feelings and the coach of Su-Wei Hsieh clarified his stance once more by writing:
"I was criticised much today & asked why I often defend Djokovic. I don’t defend poor behaviour, including by Novak. But I tell you what I do defend…grave injustice, whether to Julian Assange, Djokovic, Seles, or quality players living in poverty…if that bothers you, unfollow me."
