Jannik Sinner secured another straightforward victory at
Wimbledon, advancing to the fourth round after comfortably defeating Pedro Martínez 6-1, 6-3, 6-1. The Italian once again conceded minimal games and remains unbroken throughout his practically perfect campaign at the All England Club so far.
The world No. 1 again swept through Centre Court in an impressive performance, taking him to the second week of a Grand Slam for the ninth consecutive time (and 15th in his last 16 appearances). In pursuit of the quarterfinals, he will face the winner between Grigor Dimitrov (19th) and Sebastian Ofner.
First Set: Sinner's Swift Start
A simple start for Sinner, who claimed 12 of the first 16 points played and an early break, giving him a comfortable 3-0 lead. Martínez struggled to get into the match and conceded his serve for a second consecutive time, watching his opponent take a commanding lead on serve. After Sinner went up 5-0, Martínez finally managed to defend his service game.
It served for little, as the Italian closed out the set 6-1, winning 80% of his first-serve points and totaling 12 winners against his opponent's mere 2.
Second Set: Martínez challenges, Sinner holds firm
The Spaniard began to show improvement at the start of the second set, taking a couple of service games without trouble and managing—at least—to win some points off his opponent's return. With the score at 2-2, Sinner found his first opportunities, and the Italian took the lead to 4-2.
With the score at 4-3 in Sinner's favor, his most complicated service game came, where Martínez had four break points, but couldn't convert them. The three-time Grand Slam champion's strong first serves pulled him through the most difficult moment, and he capitalized on the momentum to close the set with a break, putting him up 6-3 and setting him on course for victory in the third set.
Third Set: Sinner seals the deal
The final part of the match, with a clear advantage, was Sinner's most dominant stretch. The Italian won 16 of the first 20 points played, securing two consecutive breaks and taking the lead to 5-0 after several impeccable service games.
Martínez managed to save a couple of match points on his serve in the sixth game—avoiding a bagel—but it wasn't enough to threaten a comeback. Sinner closed out the victory 6-1, 6-3, 6-1—saving all four break points he faced throughout the match. Sinner comfortably served out the match with a couple of aces mixed in and advanced to the fourth round of the tournament. Sinner was once again unyielding on serve, remains unbroken, and conceded only 5 games for the second consecutive match (in the first round, he conceded only 7 against Nardi).
