Recently, Nick Kyrgios picked who he believes will have the better career toward its end between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, favoring the Italian. The Australian offered a peculiar argument as to why the Spaniard might fall behind, stating that "he might get distracted."
It's well-known that Alcaraz, at certain points in the season, has chosen to take short vacations with friends and family, going out to party when his schedule allows him to disconnect from tennis and recharge. Although not everyone agrees with Alcaraz's style, his results are undeniable.
The Spaniard took a few days off after an early defeat at the Miami Open to David Goffin, drawing criticism for resting after an adverse debut result. However, the break brought him good results, as he returned in impeccable form for the clay-court swing. Alcaraz won 22 of 23 matches played on clay courts, winning titles at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Rome Open, and Roland Garros, only falling in the Barcelona Open final.
After winning the French Open title, Alcaraz again took a few days off in Ibiza, this time to celebrate his fifth Grand Slam title. His return has once again been successful, with eight consecutive wins, including the Queen's Club Championships title, and he's now in the fourth round of Wimbledon. The Spaniard is currently on the best winning streak of his career with 21 consecutive victories.
While Alcaraz seems to be the favorite in the Wimbledon title race, and Jannik Sinner his main threat, the Australian Nick Kyrgios—absent from Wimbledon this year due to injury—responded to an interview where he gave his opinion on who might go further in their career between the two ATP Tour leaders. "I'll say Jannik, because Carlos loves girls. He might get distracted, he might party too much. That's my only thing, whereas Jannik will stay a bit locked in, I think," Kyrgios claimed.
Alcaraz responded to Kyrgios's comments after securing a third-round victory at Wimbledon against Jan-Lennard Struff. The five-time major champion claimed a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win, extending his winning streak at the All England Club to 17—after taking the trophy in the last two editions.
"They're funny comments, which coming from him, don't surprise me. It's no secret that Jannik always has fewer ups and downs than me. It's something I've been working on. It has nothing to do with the nightlife world," Alcaraz said, smiling.
Currently, Alcaraz leads in major titles with five against the Italian's three, and also holds an 8-4 head-to-head advantage (3-1 in finals). In terms of total titles, Alcaraz has 21 trophies and reached 6 other finals, while Sinner has 19 titles and reached 6 other finals. Where Sinner leads is in the number of weeks as world No. 1, currently with 56, compared to Alcaraz's total of 36 weeks.
