Fognini and Monfils set up semifinal meeting at the 2019 Diriyah Tennis Cup

First two to step on the court in Riyadh were Fabio Fognini and John Isner. The Italian started the match better when he won the first set in a tie-break. He continued in a good pace also in the second set when he used his 3rd break point in the 3rd game.

Both players did not lose their service games since and therofore Fognini won the match 7-6 and 6-4. Fognini is playing first time in Riyadh and before the tournament he said: „It’s my first time here in Riyadh and I just arrived yesterday. My training was very good and at the moment it all looks very good and everything is going the perfect way. I am really looking forward to play in front of the crowd here."

In the second match, Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils fought for the semifinal spot. The Swiss started the match better when he got an early lead of 2-0 and later 3-2. But since that moment, it was Monfils who dominated the match. He managed to win 6 games in a row to win the first set 6-3 and secure an important 2-0 lead in the second set.

The Frenchman did not allow Wawrinka to have any break points in the second set and he used his 4th break point of the second set to win it 6-3. In the semifinals, he will meet Fabio Fognini. But also Wawrinka and Isner continue, when they will meet in the consolation bracket semifinals.
