Former Australia Davis Cup captain Masur praised Kyrgios for being caring and a good role model towards many kids.
Not many people would call
Nick Kyrgios a role model due to all the different things he tends to do on court that isn't really considered model behaviour. But the Australian has always maintained a sense of 'realness' to him and nobody can question whether he's genuine in everything that he does.
That is certainly visible in the loads of charity work he does back home in Australia ad former Davis Cup captain Wally Masur praised him for everything he does:
"Nick has been living in Sydney and two days later [after the
Australian Open], he was on court with a young Australian player James
McCabe. He spends time with them, he’s talking tennis with them, he’s
encouraging them and he is a really good mentor to a lot of these kids
coming through.”
He also touched upon his Australian Open success winning the doubles event:
“I said to Nick, ‘mate, well done, you’re a Grand Slam champion’He sort of
said sheepishly, ‘yeah, it’s only doubles.’ Winning that whet his appetite for more. [After] Covid and a
separation for the tour, he was kind of realising what he’d missed."
