Retired tennis pro Pat Cash has dug his heels into his stance on players receiving the vaccination, stating that the ATP should not force them to get the jab.
The 1987 Wimbledon champion, who is 56, said he feels healthy and will not be taking the covid vaccine as he does not want to risk long-term health damage. Furthermore, he added that the ATP should not make it mandatory for players to receive the vaccine.
"I'm not having a politician or a TV doctor who's on their payroll tell me what I should and shouldn't be doing with my health, okay?' said Cash. "You don't want to say to a player, 'listen don't get vaccinated, because you could end up crippled' "You don't want to really go there with that, but the message really was just wait and see what happens."
The former World No.4 explained that he did not feel the get vaccinated at this point as he still feels fit, and the decision to receive the shot should be made after enough information has been gathered on the long-term effects of the vaccine.
"Do I need to get vaccinated? I don't know. I'll make that decision at a later stage. But right now, no, I don't need to. I'm fit," revealed Cash. "I just don't want young, healthy athletes taking something that could long-term damage them for no reason.
"We just don't know. Can't we just wait a year or two years until all the info is out there? And make a decision then. "That was my stance. Let's just wait and see what happens."
