Jannik Sinner secured another straightforward victory, moving into the third round of
Wimbledon after overcoming Australia's
Aleksandar Vukic (No. 93) with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 win. The world No. 1 needed just over an hour and a half to seal the victory in another masterful performance from the Italian.
Sinner was dominant from the start, tallying 34 winners and only 11 unforced errors on his way to his 15th Wimbledon victory so far. The 23-year-old has already reached at least the quarterfinals in the last three editions and is now preparing to face the surprise Spaniard Pedro Martínez as he aims for the second week.
First Set
The favoritism was evident pre-match, facing a Vukic who had only once in his career achieved consecutive wins in a Grand Slam main draw. The Australian needed to maintain good serving statistics if he hoped to compete with the Italian, and he started by holding parity in the first service game, 1-1.
However, Sinner quickly warmed up and began to dominate from the baseline. The Italian swiftly pressured his opponent's serve, securing the first break in the fourth game after four opportunities. He didn't stop there; in Vukic's next service game, he needed only one chance for a second consecutive break. Sinner not only secured two consecutive breaks but also won 11 consecutive points on his serve before closing out the set 6-1.
Second Set
The differences widened from the beginning of the second set, as Sinner capitalized on the first break chance and then raced to a 2-0 lead on his serve. Vukic, who had only landed 47% of his first serves in the first set, maintained similar numbers (just 48%) and, even worse, won only 33% of his service points and 25% on return.
The Australian managed to defend his service just once in the set (to go down 1-2), but then Sinner again went on a strong run of points, winning 16 of the next 18 played. He then comfortably closed out the second set 6-1. Less than an hour had passed, and Sinner was already well on his way to securing the victory in the third set.
Third Set
Things wouldn't be quite as simple for Sinner in the third set, against an opponent who seemed to have little left to lose. Both held their serve early, and at 2-2, Vukic created a couple of break opportunities for the first time in the match. However, Sinner navigated these in the only critical moment he faced during the match, ultimately maintaining his lead.
When the Italian was leading 4-3, he secured the break that gave him the definitive advantage in the set and the chance to close out the victory on his serve. However, Vukic resisted a defeat in the final part of the match, as Sinner squandered five match points before finally securing the triumph, having been vastly superior to his opponent. The Italian advances 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 and is preparing to face Pedro Martínez, a Spaniard who recently eliminated Mariano Navone.
