The first semi-finalist in
Indian Wells is
Frances Tiafoe who downed
Cameron Norrie 6-4 6-4 to advance to his maiden ATP 1000 semi-final.
It comes after a great match from the American, one of the most poised her ever played. It highlighted all of his growth over the past year as he played with determination and a clear plan about how to win the match. Aside from a few minor slip-ups, it worked really well for the American who never advanced this deep at an ATP 1000 event before.
Norrie didn't play a bad match at all but Tiafoe was ready for everything. He served well albeit not too risky hitting 4 aces. He also added 22 winners and only 9 unforced errors which is really good considering how slow the court play this year. Overall he outplayed Norrie in the crucial rallies of the match as well, especially on break points.
Just a super solid performance for the American who is looking to enter the top 10 for the first time in his career. Maybe even an ATP 1000 final on top of that.
