The
Davis Cup Finals begin on Friday and there has been a last-minute change to the team of the United States of America.
The best-ranked American
Taylor Fritz won't play at the event but he will be replaced by
Frances Tiafoe. Fritz had a tremendous finish to the year that allowed him to become the best-ranked American on the ATP Rankings. Him missing the event will be a big deal for the American team that had high ambitions but Tiafoe is a worthy replacement.
Tiafoe had a bit of breakout himself at the end of the year with the American playing sensational tennis during the indoor stretch in Europe. The Davis Cup Finals will be played in very similar conditions so his selection as a replacement is not a surprise. Some experience playing in the doubles is another contributing factor.
He will join a team that already consists of John Isner, Reilly Opelka, Jack Sock, and Rajeev Ram. It's a very respectable team that has the highest ambition at the event.
