The Serbian has been unwilling to commit to vaccination over the course of the year and recently he was unwilling to discuss the topic at all. Djokovic maintained his stance that it's a private matter and while it is many remain frustrated about the unwillingness of the Serbian to take action as the leading figure in the sport of tennis.
The Australian Open organizers never officially took a stance either giving wishi-washi responses most of the time. That changed a few days ago when Craig Tiley said that unvaccinated players won't be able to attend the event which created a storm on social media. Djokovic's name was chiefly mentioned as the Serbian was asked about it once more at the ATP Finals with another cold response.
He said:
“I haven’t been talking to them [the organisers]. I was just waiting to hear what the news is going to be. Now that I know, we’ll just have to wait and see.”
It's not a shift in stance by Djokovic who will seemingly keep everyone guessing until the time arrives for him to travel to Australia. Alexander Zverev suggested that the Australian government make an exception for Djokovic due to his importance to the event but for now, it's a waiting game.
