Frances Tiafoe shines once more, beats Rublev for US Open semi-final

Frances Tiafoe is continuing to write a superb cinderella story at the US Open as he'll play in the semi-final after beating Rublev 7-6(3) 7-6(0) 6-4.

The American stunned Nadal with his upbeat and erratic playstyle as Nadal could not keep up. Rublev was never considered a great athlete and has had stamina issues in the past and certainly could not keep up either. The first set was well contested by both. There weren't many chances but Rublev had more chances even having a late set point.

He did not use it and it proved very costly when the American outplayed him in the tiebreak to take it 7-3. Tiafoe was brilliant in the keys moments combining powerful serving and rushing to the net where he dominated against Rublev.

The Russian never quite found a solution for that. The 2nd set saw zero break points in total as neither player was able to create much on the return. Another tiebreak followed and Tiafoe was even more brilliant. He completely outplayed Rublev taking all points and winning 7-0. The 3rd set was one where Rublev once again showed weaknesses.

He was able to hold from 15-40 down early in the set but dropped his serve after that unable to come up with a solution for Tiafoe. The American faced break points in the next game but he held for 5-3. He finished it comfortably 6-4.
