Fernandez/Sock fall to Sanders/Peers in mixed doubles quarterfinal at US Open

Fan favorites Leylah Fernandez and Jack Sock were ousted in the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event at the US Open, losing to the team of Storm Sanders and John Peers on Wednesday.
The Aussie duo played some inspired tennis to pull off a 7-5 7-6(3) victory, rallying from behind in the second set during their amazing comeback.
Sanders and Peers were the more aggressive team, attacking their opponents on easy second serves. The fourth seeds displayed great chemistry and understanding, which enabled them to obtain a break at 5-5 and clinch the first set.
Not to be outdone, the team of Fernandez and Sock increased their intensity and began clicking like a well-oiled machine. The North American duo obtained two breaks in the second set to lead 5-2, and the match seemed set for a decider.
However, the Australians fought back to even the score, before forcing a tiebreak. Their defensive prowess and superior shot-making ability was on full display, as they obtained the minibreak before Peers hit a ferocious forehand return winner that sealed the game in an hour and 27 minutes.
