Novak Djokovic has been very silent about the topic of vaccination rarely speaking on the matter despite calls from many.
The number one in the world has been called upon numerous times by many to speak his mind about vaccination and set a good example for his fellow colleague. However Djokovic has a history of not being the biggest fan of vaccines and since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Djokovic always maintained a firm stance on the issue in general.
He repeated that stance once more when asked at the ATP Finals about it:
“But this time I must agree with him that the freedom of choice is essential for everyone, whether it’s me or somebody else. Doesn’t really matter whether it’s vaccination or anything else in life. You should have the freedom to choose, to decide what you want to do. In this particular case, what you want to put in your body.”
Djokovic once again declined to disclose his vaccination status calling it a private matter but repeated his stance of freedom of choice. Djokovic believes it to be a very important thing in life saying:
“I have been always a proponent of that and always a supporter of freedom of choice, and I will be always supporting that because freedom is essential for I’d say a happy and prosperous life."
Whether anything changes before the Australian Open remains to be seen but for now, Djokovic should be able to play at the event even if not vaccinated with a mandatory quarantine period.
