The Night Shift matches at Roland Garros are not popular among players because they start fairly late which complicates everything that comes after a match.
Many players expressed negative feelings towards the scheduling at Roland Garros, especially about the Night Shift matches which are hugely unpopular among players. Last year they started at 21:00 local time which is fairly late especially because they could technically start sooner. It's organised that way to maximize the number of spectators during work days.
This year's matches will begin 30 minutes earlier at 20:30 in order to make it easier for the players. Last year's distribution also saw criticism because only one of those 10 night shift matches was a WTA match. Asked about the distribution this year, tournament director Mauresmo couldn't confirm that there would be an equal split:
“To be honest, I’m not able right now to tell you anything about numbers of men’s or women’s matches. I think we have to wait for the draws first, and for the head-to-head every day because that is really what is pushing us to make a choice – to know which match is going to be the match of the day.”
