The
French Open 2024 ended on Sunday with a breathtaking
contest between world number two
Carlos Alcaraz and Germany’s
Alexander Zverev.
The contest lasted five sets, and the Spaniard came out on top with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. According to the latest report, the final attracted an incredible audience on TV.
The report stated that the final between Alcaraz and Zverev
gained more viewership than the final at the Roland Garros last year.
Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic eventually came out on top in that contest against Norway’s Casper Ruud in straight sets, with a score of 7–6(7–1), 6–3, 7–5.
Leading to the victory, Alcaraz defeated some notable players,
including Felix Auger Aliassime of Canada in the fourth round, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the newly crowned world number one Jannik Sinner in a brilliantly contested semifinal that also went down to the fifth
set.
On the other hand, Zverev also defeated some very good
players on his way to the final, including Denmark’s Holger Rune, Australia’s Alex de Minaur, and Norway’s Casper Ruud. With Sunday's win, Alcaraz became the youngest player
in the men’s singles category to win three Grand Slams.
Carlos Alcaraz won his first French Open title after beating Alexander Zverev.
His first major title triumph was back in 2022 when he
defeated Ruud in the final of the US Open with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3. Last year,
Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in a five-set thrilling final at Wimbledon with a
score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
On the other hand, it was Zverev’s second defeat in the
final of a Grand Slam. His previous outing in the grand finale of a major event
was back in 2020 when he came second-best against Austria’s Dominic Thiem
in the final of the US Open in a five-set thriller with a score of 2–6, 4–6,
6–4, 6–3, 7–6
