Frenchman Arthur Fils withdraws from 2025 US Open due to injury

Fans at the 2025 US Open will be saddened to know that charismatic Frenchman Arthur Fils has announced his withdrawal from the final Grand Slam of the season.
Fils sustained a stress fracture in his back earlier this year, and it appears he is unable to recover in time for the New York Grand Slam. The 21-year old was forced to withdraw from the 2025 Wimbledon Championships due to the injury, meaning he will miss out on the final two majors of the season.
Currently ranked as the World No.20, the Frenchman was seeded at the US Open. As a result of his withdrawal, he will be replaced by a lucky loser from the ongoing qualifying rounds.
World No.1 Jannik Sinner is the defending champion at Flushing Meadows. Although he retired mid-match during the Cincinnati Open final against rival Carlos Alcaraz on Monday, the Italian is still the favorite to win the title when the US Open singles event kicks off on Sunday, August 24.

Fils having breakout year prior to injury

The 21-year old kicked off his 2025 ATP season with a third round appearance at the Australian Open, his best performance at the Happy Slam. Subsequently, he would set personal records at the Sunshine Double.
Fils reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, his first quarterfinal at an ATP Masters 1000 event. The Frenchman defeated Italian No.2 Lorenzo Musetti en route to the final eight, before falling to 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in three sets.
The Miami Open saw Fils score two huge wins en route to another quarterfinal appearance. He defeated former US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe in the third round, before recording an upset victory over three-time Grand Slam runner-up Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. However, the Frenchman would fall to rising Czech star Jakub Mensik in the quarterfinals.
Fils would go on to reach the quarterfinals at the Monte-Carlo Masters and the semifinals of the Barcelona Open, losing to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz on both occasions The rising French star would reach the third round at the 2025 French Open, but was forced to withdraw from his third round match after suffering a back injury.
