Taylor Fritz joined Holger Rune, Alex de Minaur and his next opponent, Tommy Paul in the semi-finals of Abierto Mexicano Acapulco after seeing off Frances Tiafoe in an entertaining clash.
Fritz sealed it 6-3, 6-4 to underline his status as the number one American but it was Tiafoe at times who turned on the style.
He hit an underhand serve and drop shots as he tried to recover from an early break in the second set but Fritz survived and finished the job despite only 50 per cent of his first serves.
In both sets, he sealed an early break and was able to weather any break points that Tiafoe got with four in total being erased. This was a theme as despite Tiafoe mixing in the ridiculous, he was unable to threaten the serve which proved vital as Fritz got over the line.

US #1 Taylor Fritz (ATP #5) beats US #2 Frances Tiafoe (ATP #15) for a 6th (!) consecutive time, 6-3, 6-4, to reach the semifinals in Acapulco for a 2nd time (finalist in 2020). He will face Tommy Paul in a rematch of two Juniors GS finals. h2h tied 3-3 at pro-level...
