Matteo Berrettini did not have a very good night Acapulco as the Italian retired down 0-6 0-1 against Holger Rune getting booed off the court as well.
Berrettini and Rune played a very odd set after which the Italian retired early in the second set. The Italian never looked like himself out on the court being unable to get anything going. Rune dominated play from the start leaving Berrettini very frustrated. Even demolishing his racquet didn't make much difference and neither did the rain delay.
It was 4-0 when it happened and it lasted about 35 minutes with Rune taking the set 6-0 after 24 minutes of play upon return. He won 24 points compared to Berrettini's 7. The Italian played one more game before retiring, a move that was booed by the crowd. They waited 35 minutes to watch 5 more minutes of play essentially.
It's unclear what happened with Berrettini but an injury is likely. He never called a MTO but probably got treatment during the rain delay. Either way Rune moves on.
