Taylor Fritz
would have suffered from dehydration after his match against
Tommy Paul at the
Acapulco
Mexican Open, according to his girlfriend Morgan Riddle.
One of the
great matches that occurred this week was the semifinal between Americans Fritz
and Paul in Acapulco. Both players showed signs of physical fatigue in the last
set of the match, and the world No. 5 even vomited on the Mexican court. Paul
managed to win the match in a dramatic third-set tiebreak and advanced to the
final against
Alex De Minaur, which the Australian won.
Taylor Fritz's girlfriend
Morgan Riddle stated that the 25-year-old tennis player was treated by
tournament doctors until 4 am, and they were about to go to the hospital due to
Fritz's dehydration, but the tennis player was "too stubborn" to make
the decision to go to a medical center.
"After
he got sick on court last night, we were up until 4 am with the tournament
doctors. He couldn't keep any food down, chills, severe dehydration, full body
cramping & almost had to go to the hospital. So scary. He is too stubborn
to default and pushed himself too hard & these high humidity tournaments
are no joke," Riddle said.
Using her
social media accounts, Riddle added that she is proud of Fritz's performance in
Mexico and is excited to go to Indian Wells, where the American won the
championship last year after defeating Rafael Nadal in the final.
"Sad
way to end the week but so proud of the last few weeks and excited to get to
IW,", she added.
