Former world number one
Rafael Nadal received a special jersey
from the legendary Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi.
The 36-year-old played a key role in helping Argentina
win the FIFA World Cup in 2022 where they defeated the defending champions France
in the final on penalties.
In a post from Rafa Nadal Academy on the social media
platform X — previously known as Twitter — Messi’s jersey could be seen on display
as the first-anniversary approaches of the famous triumph.
Nadal is currently spending time on the sidelines as he
continues his recovery from a knee injury sustained earlier this year. It was
because of this reason he ended up missing three out of four Grand Slams in
2023.
Nadal is often regarded as one of the greatest players in
the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 22
Grand Slam titles. His most successful competition has been the French Open
where he won the title 14 times. It is because of this reason he is also renowned
as the ‘King of Clay’.
In 2023, Nadal only
played in the Australian Open where he was knocked out after losing in the
second round to America’s Mackenzie McDonald with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
