Gael
Monfils has eliminated the worst
Carlos Alcaraz ever at the
Cincinnati Open.
You can lose, but you can not destroy your racket frustrated and that is what
the Spaniard did, which gives a bad impression before the U.S. Open.
The
Spaniard could not take the win after losing the tie-break of the second set
once the match was resumed after being suspended due to bad weather the day
before (it is unfortunate that there are in 2024 Masters 1000 that still do not
have indoor courts).
He did a
lot of damage to the Murcian and got break in favor and got 5-4 and serve to
win the match. He did not fail (4-6/7-6/6/6-4).
Monfils did
not make things easy for Alcaraz who had not played for some time and who felt
he had to adapt again to the hard court after having played on grass and clay
in recent weeks.
The player
from El Palmar took advantage of the break point he had in his favor in the
first set to win the first set 6-4. In the second, however, the serves won and
the match had to be decided in the sudden death. As we have already said, in
that decisive moment the match had to be stopped and in the return the
Frenchman continued with his good sensations, won the sudden death and broke
the Murcian from the start.
In the
third set we saw the worst Alcaraz ever, hitting his racquets against the
ground in the purest Novak Djokovic style but losing patience, not regaining
confidence. A Monfils who was not serving better than the previous day was
hurting the Murcian and got a break in favor and got 5-4 and serve to win the
match. He did not fail (4-6/7-6/6/6-4). With 38 springs, Monfils sent home
Alcaraz.
As we say,
we can understand that 'Carlitos' can lose to a player as dangerous as the Gaul,
what we do not understand is his frustration, his childish behavior destroying
his racquet. We had never seen the player from El Palmar like that and we hope
we never see him again.
