The 2025 Australian Open may have taken a greater toll on some ATP stars than realized, as several athletes already confirmed for the upcoming Open Sud de France have announced their withdrawal.

Scheduled to run from January 27-Frebruary 2, 2025, the Open Sud de France, often known as the Montpellier Open, is one of the first tournaments slated following the conclusion of the Australian Open. With a short turnaround period, some ATP stars may not have recovered from the grueling two weeks of Grand Slam action.

Monfils, Mpetshi Perricard announce their withdrawals from home event

French veteran Gael Monfils put on a show in Melbourne, upsetting World No.4 Taylor Fritz en route to a round of 16 showing. However, the 38-year old was forced to retire during his fourth round match against American Ben Shelton. Monfils' withdrawal from Montpellier indicates the beloved superstar may still be feeling the effects from his lingering injury.

Compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who lost to Monfils in the first round at the Australian Open, has also been confirmed as a withdrawal from the Open Sud de France. Joining the French duo on the sidelines are Italian Lorenzo Sonego, who is slated to battle Shelton for a spot in the semifinals in Melbourne. Additionally, Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena and Frenchman Alexandre Muller have also announced their withdrawal.

Therefore, Hugo Gaston, Alexander Shevchenko, Botic van de Zandschulp, Daniel Altmaier, Borna Coric, Lucas Pouille, Dominik Koepfer and Mattia Bellucci have all been granted entry as alternates. American Christopher Eubanks is next in line, should any other withdrawals be announced.
