Gael Monfils defeated Ugo Humbert in Doha at the Qatar Open. But wasn't so lucky when it came to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships as the former was cast aside and also was forced to pause his match at one point and run off the court to throw up.
The 37-year-old was serving in the second set against Humbert when he abandoned the game after one point rushing over to the umpire to inform them he needed to vomit. He said that the eggs in his stomach were the reason and joked that he should've had pizza.
Stepping up to serve at 0-1, Monfils was taking deep breaths and doubled over his bench. He told the chair official that he need to be sick, but they didn't particularly have a protocol for it.
"If he’s cramping perhaps, the stomach is cramping. That can be nasty, can’t it?" Chris Dennis said on commentary. Arvind Parmar added: "Looks like he’s struggling, doesn’t he? I think he might need to throw up here."
The umpire asked: "He needs to vomit, where can he go?" over the radio before he ran off the court and forfeited the game as a result to take a break. When he returned, it was like nothing had happened, but he was taken down by Humbert. He will return to face Andy Murray.
