Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski thinks
Alexander Zverev has deserved to be suspended and fined for his behaviour during a doubles match in Acapulco.
On Tuesday, Zverev and Marcelo Melo took on Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara in their Acapulco doubles opener. Zverev wasn't happy with some of the calls in the match tie-break and he absolutely unloaded on the chair umpire:
"Look where the ball bounced! It's 8-6 in a tie-breaker! Look where the ball bounced, for God's sake! It's your line! It's f------ your line! You f------ idiot! F--- off!"
After the match concluded Zverev proceeded to smash his racquet into the umpire's chair nearly hurting the umpire. Obviously, it was appaling behaviour that was heavily criticized by many. Zverev released a statement saying he was very out of line and how much he was disappointed in himself. So far the ATP has not publicly fined Zvrev nor suspended him and Greg Rusedski wants exactly that to happen.
He wrote on Twitter:
"With regards to Zverev breaking his racquet on the chair umpire's chair and behaviour, the only response has to be a suspension and fine."
