French Open director Guy Forget resigned from his positions of French Open director and Paris Masters director as his contract was set to expire at the end of the year.
L’Equipe newspaper
first reported the news. The daily said Forget informed federation
president Gilles Moretton on Tuesday morning of his decision. The
federation did not give any reason for Forget’s sudden departure and
thanked him for “his commitment and exemplary work, which have
contributed to the influence of these two major tournaments on the
international scene.”
Forget
was named in the Pandora Papers leaks this year by the International
Consortium of Investigative Journalists that shed light on how the rich
and powerful have used offshore accounts to shield assets collectively
worth trillions of dollars. The French federation ethics committee
looked at the case and found no wrongdoing from Forget, saying he did
not breach “values of honesty and integrity.”
He also caught a lot of criticism for his handling of the Naomi Osaka situation at the event earlier in the year while also some players backed his decision. All in all, the former pro who was ranked number 4 in the 1990s won't do the job anymore. He has been Paris Masters director since 2012 and French Open director since 2016.
