Seeing off his compatriot and World Number 34 in Jan-Lennard Struff, he claimed it in a 7-6, 7-6 victory winning both in tie breaks in just under two hours.
In terms of statistics, Struff hit a phenomenal 17 aces compared to 7 from his opponent. Haas edged the unforced errors hitting 22 compared to 30 but as the total games won showed with 12 each from the 24 played, the duo were very evenly matched and it was a tie which could have swinged either way.
A potential tie with Dominic Thiem now awaits Haas as the Indian Wells tournament director continues to roll back the years at the bett1 aces.
