For her column for Sky Sports, former British No.1 and top pundit, Laura Robson said that by the end, Novak Djokovic and Goran Ivanisevic were like an 'old married couple'.
Djokovic and Ivanisevic were together for six years achieving most of the Serbian's real success at the top of the game when many expected him to slow down like Federer and Nadal. He admitted this past week that the duo got sick of each other and could've split even earlier.
Robson shared a similar sentiment saying that they were a staple on the tour that perhaps needed changing up as she recalled Serbian newspaper reports that Ivanisevic had exhausted all conversations. In the view of the Brit, fresh ideas were needed for Djokovic to continue to the next stage of his career.
"Djokovic and Ivanisevic got along really well and like with a lot of coaching relationships, things just run its course and you felt like they were an old married couple because they had been together for so long," said Robson to Sky Sports.
"He's been on tour so long and sometimes you just need a fresh voice. I read in a Serbian newspaper where Ivanisevic said they had run out of things to say to each other and had exhausted all conversations. It seems like they both knew it was time rather than it being one-sided which is always good."
But despite in the view of Robson, Djokovic being written off is part of his time at the top, she said it is now different with Alcaraz and Sinner there.
"I think what makes it different this time is that the level of competition is definitely harder given where Sinner and Alcaraz have been playing unbelievably well so maybe that just puts a few thoughts into his mind."
