The match was broadcast by ESPN Brazil and it became the most watched tennis match in the country's history. The information comes from the Brazilian website Tenisnews with the previous record being held by this year's Roland Garros quarterfinal match between Djokovic and Nadal in Paris.
It was a well-contested match going to three sets and ending with Halep winning the trophy. According to the report 92 % of those who have the ESPN subscription tuned into the match which way by far the highest for any tennis match.
The popularity of Haddad Maia is skyrochetking in her native Brazil since she broke out this year.
