Yannick Hanfmann had some incredible matches this year however nobody really expected him to take down Fritz and that's what he did comfortably 6-4 6-1.
Hanfmann has been a really good clay player for much of his career and he proved it once more. Taking on Fritz in Rome was a daunting task however he was able to take him down in two simple sets. The American has been really good for much of this year but his form recently has been dipping quite a bit and this result might just be proof of it.
Fritz took an early lead in this one 3-0, however, things quickly unravelled for him as Hanfman was able to completely turn things around and take the opening set 6-4. It was just a spectacular showing from the German who had 16 winners in this one, almost three times as much as Fritz and that's kind of impressive.
Not many can outhit Fritz but Hanfmann did with a very risky approach that worked well. The second set was even more impressive as Fritz didn't serve well which allowed his opponent to take the ball early and he did. 10 winners and no unforced errors in the second set for Hanfmann who moves on to Rome.
