Russian duo Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev secured an ATP Cup final berth following victories over Zverev in Struff.
After a marathon match agianst Zverev, Medvedev said in the press conference:
“We're really happy to get the win, that's the most important. Tough matches [for] both of us. Both [Andrey and I] lost the first set. [It was] not easy because we had two days off before the match… But happy we're in the final. That's the most important.”
And indeed it was a stellar comeback for the Russian side and for Medvedev who said of the match:
“When it's against Sascha and you are 6-3, 3-2 break down, many times you're going to lose a match. But I needed to keep my chances alive for the team first of all, for the country. I just tried to stay there, got a bit tight maybe. I just did my job and I'm really happy about it.”
Medvedev also had words of praise for Andrey Rublev who overcome also a slow start to beat Struff securing Russia the first point:
“Andrey is an amazing player. Last year, what he did [was] something special. Today in the first set, he was not hitting as he can... But he managed to keep his nerves, and that’s what champions do. He managed to get a point for the team so I could [have] it easier.”
Russia is set to face a red hot Matteo Berrettini who is yet to lose a match in the competition. You can follow that match and all other matches on our live scores page here.
