Goran Ivanisevic has revealed that
it has not been an easy task to motivate someone like
Novak Djokovic.
The 52-year-old has been working
with the current world number as a coach for a long period of time and the two
have achieved an incredible amount of success working together.
Ivanisevic was recently quoted in
a report where he explained how difficult it is to motivate a player who has
achieved everything in his career.
“It is not easy to motivate him
[Djokovic] because he has already won everything, but we have a way,” he said. “Many
times we don’t agree, but it’s good to argue on the court. I love this job.
Work can only be done if you love it and have the support of your family. If
you don’t know how to deal with stress, which is always present, then you can’t
do your job.
“I am happy to train a genius, the
best tennis player of all time and one of the best athletes in general. It’s
unfortunate that only wins count. The final is not good, it’s like you didn’t
even come to the tournament. It’s easier for me because we are from the same
region.”
Djokovic is often regarded as the greatest
player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as
many as 24 major titles.
His 24th Grand Slam
victory came recently in New York where he defeated the current world number
three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in straight sets with a score of
6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
