World number three Daniil Medvedev has heaped praise on America’s Christopher Eubanks after his impressive show at Wimbledon 2023.
The 27-year-old has surprised everyone with his performance at the third Grand Slam of the year where he has already qualified for the fourth round of the competition despite taking part in the main draw for the first time.
The 2021 US Open winner Medvedev was full of praise for Eubanks and his ‘total tennis’ and believed that the young American is not scared of anything.
“I say with my coach that he has kind of — I don't know if it's the same in English like it is in French — total tennis,” said Medvedev. “He is not scared of anything. He just goes for it. [He] hits very, very fast and goes to the net as soon as he has the opportunity, has a big serve.
“From what I saw, because I’ve known him for a long time, he managed to find something this year which I don't think he had before. The consistency of doing back-to-back matches, not missing too much, going for the same shots, just being consistent.”
Eubanks defeated Thiago Monteiro of Brazil in the first round of the competition with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-3.
In the round of 64, he was the reason for one of the biggest upsets in the competition in the men’s singles draw as he got the better of the world number 12 Britain’s Cameron Norrie with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6.
In the round of 32, the Atlanta-born outclassed Australia’s Christopher O'Connell in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 7-6.
Eubanks will now face world number five Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16 clash on Monday.
