Felix Auger-Aliassime finally won a final on Sunday as he captured his maiden ATP Tour title at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament.
It only took nine finals overall to win his first one but Auger-Aliassime is finally an ATP Champion. The 3rd seed stepped up and handled the pressure, overcoming
Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-2 in 78 minutes to triumph in Rotterdam.
Tsitsipas was aiming to clinch his eighth tour-level title on Sunday however he is yet to win an ATP 500 trophy having come close a few times.
After the match he praised his opponent admitting he deserved it:
“He played a really good match, producing really good shots and serving well the whole match. I wasn’t able to serve well at all today. He played very well.”
Tsitsipas has had a solid start to the year yet the Greek also disappointed in two big matches so far in 2022. In Australia, he completely collapsed against Medvedev yet again while he never found a rhythm in the final against Auger-Aliassime. Things move to Marseille for him, an event where he lifted the trophy twice before.
