Casper Ruud and Nick Kyrgios don't share a fondness for each other and it began several years back at the Rome Masters.
The players played at the Rome Masters where Nick Kyrgios had an epic meltdown resulting in a default. Ruud proceeded to celebrate the win emphatically which upset Kyrgios who lashed out on Twitter. Since then they took shots at one another here and there with the latest coming recently.
Kyrgios reacted to a post by ATP Tour on Twitter showing the Kitzbuhel semifinal which had Ruud in it. Kyrgios responded with a 'facepalm' emoji that started a new back and forth. In that exchange, Kyrgios said Ruud was stealing points by playing clay events that serve no purpose at this time of the year.
Ruud went on to win Kitzbuhel completing the hattrick of Bastad, Gstaad and Kitzbuhel. Asked about the exchanges he said:
“I have nothing to say. I’m here, I won three titles in three weeks while he (Kyrgios) stays at home most of the year."
Kyrgios also backtracked a bit on his commetns saying:
“He’s got amazing discipline, obviously a great player. I never cut down his tennis. Great player. That works for him. If that’s what’s going to work best for his career, that’s great."
