Australia’s Jordan Thompson has shared details about how his fellow countryman Nick Kyrgios is feeling after missing out at the French Open. The 30-year-old has been ruled out from the Roland Garros 2025 after suffering a knee injury.
Kyrgios was hoping to feature in the competition for the first time since 2017, but that did not materialise. It is not the first mega-event where the Canberra-born star has not been able to play in the recent past. He suffered a serious wrist injury back in 202,2, which kept him out of action for more than two years.
He returned to the court at the end of 2024 but has struggled to maintain his fitness. He featured at the Australian Open but was forced to retire in the second set against fellow countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis. After that contest, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist admitted that he does not see himself playing in the singles category at the Australian Open.
Australian tennis player Thompson, who is taking part in the French Open and suffered a defeat in the singles category but still has a role to play in the doubles, has spoken to the media in Paris where he revealed that Kyrgios was shattered after suffering the recent injury. The 31-year-old stated that Kyrgios told him that he is not sure how long he can handle those injuries.
"Nick was really pumped to play here,” he said. “He kept messaging me every week, 'you good to go to for dubs at Roland Garros?'. I know he was back home in Australia training on clay but a few days ago, Nick told me that he's done something to his knee, so unfortunately, he just couldn't be here. He was pretty down. He told me he doesn't know how much more of these injuries he can take, and you've just got to feel for him. Because as much as he says things in the media, I think he loves playing tennis and he loves being on court ..."
