Thayan
Lima, the ex-girlfriend of Thiago Seyboth Wild, criticized the adulation that
the Brazilian has received at the French Open, despite being accused of
domestic abuse.
The biggest
surprise of the French Open so far was Thiago Seyboth Wild's victory over world
No. 2 and recent Rome Open champion Daniil Medvedev. It is well known that the
Russian is not a fan of clay tournaments, but his recent trophy in Italy
positioned him as one of the favorites.
Thayan Lima
spoke about the 23-year-old tennis player's recent win and recalled that he has
been accused of domestic violence since 2022, a case that has been stagnant so
far.
"People
forget. He wins three games and that erases everything he did? I am impressed
that the ATP (Professional Tennis Association) does not have any type of
punishment for criminals. It is unbelievable," Lima said to UOL.
During the
press conference, Thiago Seyboth Wild was asked about the pending case in the
Rio de Janeiro Justice system.:
"I
don't think it's a subject we should be talking about here. I think it's a
question you shouldn't ask anyone. I don't think it's up to you to decide if
this is the place to talk about it or not," the Brazilian said.
The
23-year-old athlete, who has never entered the top 100 in his career (currently
ranked 172 in the world), will play in the second round against Argentine Guido
Pella. Pella defeated local player Quentin Halys in a battle that was decided
in the fifth-set tiebreak.
