Daniil Medvedev is out of
Roland Garros after getting beaten by
Thiago Seyboth Wild in a 5-set thriller 7-6(5) 6-7(8) 2-6 6-3 6-4 that lasted over four hours.
Medvedev was considered one of the candidates to possibly win the event after a superb run in Rome which saw him capture his first trophy on clay. The Russian has been spectacular this year winning 5 trophies so far but he stumbled in the first round of Roland Garros after running into a very inspired Wild.
Supreme shot-making
What essentially won Wild this match was the ability to produce winners when he really needed to. Medvedev didn't play his best, far from it, and it allowed the Brazilian to really demonstrated his shot-making. He's been known as a great talent for a while and is capable of hitting the ball really well and today everything worked for him.
He had 69 winners which is incredible considering how Daniil Medvedev plays. It's not easy to hit him off the court and only Alcaraz and now Wild were able to do that this year. He didn't even have that many errors with 77 which is okay considering how aggressive he played. He took the first set, and lost the second and third. Came back strong in the 4th and won the 5th with very brave play.
Medvedev disappoints
This wasn't a very good Medvedev match as several things that he does well were completely nullified with the way Wild played in this match. Medvedev pressed far too often which is why he had 15 double faults in the match. He did have 14 aces as well but just not as aggressive enough to win the match.
Not a great matchup for him on paper but also just an incredible performance from the Brazilian. By far his best ever so far in his career.
