Elena Rybakina faced a pretty solid test in Brenda Fruhvirtova but she managed to handle it well beating the Czech youngster 6-4 6-2 to advance at
Roland Garros.
Rybakina arrived in Paris following a very odd week in Rome that saw her lift the trophy by outplaying her opponents. She also had a couple of lucky breaks with a couple of players retiring such as Kalinina in the final. Her first match at Roland Garros finished fully with a straight sets win for her.
First set
The first set was a very good one with Fruhvirtova giving Rybakina quite a bit of trouble early. Rybakina had to save a break point earlier in the match but she managed to do that and then broke Fruhvirotva in the next game to take a lead. She held that lead for the 6-4 win behind 18 winners. Rybakina was pretty erratic from the baseline opting to be aggressive but she missed more than she would have liked to.
The best thing for her was the fact that Fruhvirtovy really couldn't stay with her opponent, especially from the baseline.
Second set
The second set was even more impressive for the Kazakh player as she showed far more control in that set. She had 15 winners but didn't have 10+ errors which made it easy for her to dominate the rallies. Fruhvirtova was once again unable to hold her own against Rybakina because she lacks the power to really hit as well as Rybakina can.
A fair outing from the youngster but not good enough to survive 33 winners and 9 aces from Rybakina.
