Carlos Alcaraz lost yesterday to Casper Ruud in his debut at the ATP Finals after arriving with a bad cold that seems to be still affecting him. The player from Murcia has been taking antibiotics for several days to mitigate his problems but it seems that he is still not getting better.
Today he tried to train this morning in Turin but after 10 minutes he had to stop. After losing the first match by two sets to zero, anything less than winning the next two without dropping a set would leave him with very few options to reach the semifinals. Tomorrow he plays against Adrey Rublev and, evidently, it seems that he will not play in optimal conditions;
We will continue to keep you informed about his state of health. Yesterday after the duel he commented the following on the subject without wanting to use it as an excuse for his clear defeat: "I got sick before coming to Turin. In training I was able to hold on, but today I felt very weak, especially with my stomach".
Juan Carlos Ferrero confirmed that he’s not 100% but that he would still play. “As soon as he moves a little, he has trouble breathing. His chest is a little tight. A bad time to get sick. We must not anticipate whether he will play or not tomorrow. We have all played in these circumstances. I think he will not get to the point where he will not go on court. It will be difficult for him to be 100% tomorrow.”
